Hi All,
As many of you may know the Junior Program is rolling out a North East Junior Regional Team. Becky Carlyle did an info session at the recent HVO A meet. I am putting out this message because I think this regional Team can help support the Juniors in your clubs. When the team starts next year Becky is planning to attend local meets in the Region to provide training's for kids and adults. When Becky has an organized schedule she will contact each club about what meets she is planning to attend. It would be great if each club could work with her to advertise this. I think its a great opportunity for you to promote orienteering for your club and will help the Junior program continue to grow and support Juniors in orienteering on a regular basis. I will be hosting an information session at the NEOC Troll cup A meet coming up in a couple weeks to talk to clubs about how they can get involved. It would be great to have a representative from each club from the North east at that info session. For any questions let me know. Thank you for your time.

I don't know what financial arrangements there may or may not be to help cover Becky's expenses, but I plan to suggest to the clubs I belong to (WCOC, NEOC, CSU) that they each pitch in maybe a couple hundred bucks (or more) to help her move this whole effort forward. It would be a pittance for the clubs. And what is being organized is something we surely need.

First of all, Erin is one of those OUSA employees (or, whomever is employing him), that is doing a standup job. Keep rockin' dude. Keep settin' an example for others so situated (obviously saying that won't matter, but you say it anyway, just in case).

Second of all, echoing PG's thoughts, tho not his geography, last time I checked, the club in my neck of the woods had more money than Croesus. 2K wouldn't even dent them in any financial domain. The domain described in this thread is a domain I hope they contribute 2K to (in lieu of their replicating the same experience in the Mid-Atlantic region).

Nice job folks. Its nice to see some positive work being done.

I am very excited to see what comes of these efforts in the Northeast. Erin has done a fantastic job with the Junior Team, and Becky's work with them at training camps has been excellent. Speaking as someone who would like to see our clubs invest more financially in junior development: it would be helpful to have a number to ask for. I think soliciting funds from BoDs will be much more productive if there is some quantity to provide context and a description about how the money will be used.

randy - watch this space for Mid Atlantic. Rumour has it a recent returnee to these shores will be following in my footsteps.

We will talk about numbers and get back to you. Watch this space.

I like how Erin worded his post. "I think its a great opportunity for you to promote orienteering for your club and will help the Junior program continue to grow and support Juniors in orienteering on a regular basis". Note that he didn't use the word "Jr Development". He uses key words about promotion and growth and support. Instant buy-in.

Randy--I hope your information is accurate. It was a few years ago, but have you been keeping up with things? It takes a lot of $6 entry fees to keep the till full.

Either way, sounds like a good idea. You should propose it.
